Necklace Knowledge Affair

Finding a stunning necklace isn’t a problem I often face, but I will admit that it can be difficult to know how particular necklaces will look on me as well as what I will actually be able to wear them with… When considering a necklace or a pendant, it is of the utmost importance that you NEVER overlook the length! While necklace lengths these days seem to have more to do with personal preference than fashion requirements lets not forget that a necklace that lays properly can accentuate the flow as well as the visual interest of any ensemble! Longer lengths draw attention to the bust while shorter lengths feature the beautiful lines of your neck. I have decided that it is absolutely necessary to arm all of my readers with a little extra necklace knowledge in order to encourage adding different lengths to your current wardrobe! And so I present to all of you Necklace Knowledge: A No Fail Necklace Length Guide

Collar 12-13” Snug and sophisticated it can be graceful and elegant. The Collar necklace fits nicely around your neck to pair with an evening dress or chic V-neck attire.

Choker 14-16” Classy and extremely versatile, the Choker falls about the length of your collarbone.

Princess 17-19” Perfectly suitable to adorn with a pendant the Princess length may just be among the most favored of the styles. Pair it with anything from a crew neck to a deep v and those in between! This length seems to always work.

Matinee 20-24” Stylish and elegant the matinee necklace compliments both casual & business dress. Its just a tad longer than the choker yet just a bit shorter than an opera length making for a great look for the average height gal.

Opera 28-34” The opera necklace length is gorgeous and refined. It can be worn in one strand for a polished look or doubled as a two-strand choker length piece. The style is very “flapper”-like. This necklace is very flattering for shorter women because it elongates the body.

Rope or Lariat 40+” & 45+” Flirtatious and dripping with elegance the rope was a favorite of Coco Chanel and it truly exudes indescribable elegance. I will also say this is an absolute favorite of mine! I’m all about a necklace that looks great with any get up and without these additions to my wardrobe it simply wouldn’t be nearly complete…

How to do Twitter RIGHT

I went to my first tweet-up the other day. Well, my first official tweet-up. There's actually been a ton of people I've met, in different parts of the world like San Francisco and Poland, that I met originally through Twitter... but I guess that's not really a tweet-up, is it?

Yeah, I had avoided tweet-ups in my own city because A) I thought they were lame and B) I felt like the totally uncool kid that never gets invited anywhere (and this is usually true, btw).

But it was an old high school friend of mine - SSDATED - who I hadn't seen in ages and who I know is pretty freakin' awesome, and it was her own tweet-up party, so I figured, why the hell not?

Night started off slowly (was held in the swanky Glowbal Afterglow Lounge in Yaletown which is a lot different from the gay bars on Davie St I am used to frequenting) but soon I was meeting tons of Tweeps I knew from my daily Twitter feed, and meeting more lovely people as well.

I don't want to post any pictures here because I'm afraid of accidentley outing someone who wants to remain anonymous *ahem* so I'll just post this pic. It's of me. You all know what I look like.

(For SSDATED - spreading the V pose everywhere)

ANYHOO - one of the things everyone was talking about that night was how they got started on Twitter, how they are trying to convince their friends to tweet, how some people just don't get it - and look, I was totally one of those people! I thought "uugh, just a bunch of status updates, laaaaaame" BUT IT'S TOTALLY NOT LIKE THAT.

Or, at least, it shouldn't be. And then I got thinking, how can people (especially those who are wary about it or not sure how to use it) get the most out of Twitter?

Here are some tips:

1. Follow interesting people - this is key. Whether they are funny celebs, up-to-date news sources, or just off-the-wall people you've never met, having an interesting feed is what will keep you reading.

2. Talk to people - if you have interesting people in your feed, best thing you can do is converse with them. This is an online community, like a large public chat room. Just by talking to people, you'd be amazed at how much you have in common with many of them. If you find the right tweeps, your time on Twitter will be much more enjoyable. Lately, I've been laughing my ass off at what's been said by some of my more rowdy friends (Boobs and the Dude, you know who you are).

3. Unfollow boring people - or people who cheer for opposing hockey teams. Basically if anything makes your Twitter experience less enjoyable, there's no reason to follow them. Tweeters who make you angry or bore the shit out of you - cut 'em loose. Other people may find them enjoyable, they just aren't your cup of tea. Too bad Twitter doesn't have the Facebook "hide" option, for those that only annoy you on occasion (like during hockey games).

4. Don't take anything personally - if someone disagrees with something you said or *GASP* unfollows you, it is hard not to feel slighted or defensive. But remember the internet attracts different people, sarcasm can be VERY hard to read at times (especially if you don't know the person well) and people unfollow for many different reasons (see above). I know I can be opinionated and I tweet too much - whatever. People can, and do, unfollow me for those reasons and others. Different strokes for different folks.

5. Retweet the nasty stuff - occasionally you may find yourself under TWITTER ASSAULT which is far worse than someone unfollowing or disagreeing with you. People who are angry/miserable enough to engage in Twitter Assault are usually the type of people who delete their tweets after too. Retweeting it says "hey, I see what you did there - now everyone else sees too." Your lovely loyal tweeps will usually jump to your defense and you'll show the attacker, hey that's cool you think I'm a ____________. Celebrities do this all the time and I think it's pretty funny. Especially when Neil Hamburger does it.

6. Retweet the funny and interesting stuff - retweeting is sharing. Sharing is caring. You like something you've read? Retweet it - share it with others, plus you credit the original tweep who put it out there. Retweets are like kisses... or some other analogy.

7. Don't be afraid to promote yourself - Twitter is one of the greatest marketing tools out there. There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the technology and using it to help yourself out. It's also a great platform for helping fellow friends, causes, events, etc. But...

8. Don't spam people
- one or two tweets about something is perfect (per day). This blog post might get tweeted via me twice today, just because a lot of people aren't on Twitter all day long and might miss it - especially if they have a busy feed. But if you mention it a lot, all the time, and especially if it's the SAME tweet... ugh, that's just akin to spam. Speaking of...

9. Block Spammers - someone replied to you that you don't know and they have an egg for a picture or a "hot" girl and are wanting you to click on a link about whatever the hell you might have tweeted about moments earlier? DON'T DO IT. Report them for Spam immediately. It's been getting worse lately it seems (least for Vancouver Tweeps), so nip it in the bud and it will help stop the spammers... until they open a new account.

10. AND HAVE FUN - Why so serious? Twitter is a place to vent about your commute, to complain about Justin Bieber, to celebrate going for a run, for teasing Caddyshack and Bacon bots, sharing music, developing crushes, and for engaging in mindless/intense conversations... all for 140 characters or less.

Miley-Spiration: Accessory Obsessed

Let it be known that aside from the occasional sighting of her throughout my blog, I am actually what I would like to call an Unofficial Fan of 18-year-old actress/singer Miley Cyrus and I guess by unofficial I mean… Im not really a Miley fan, but more so I AM a fan of some of her most recent accessory selections!  Miley was spotted stepping out in a nude Herve Leger dress as she arrived at the 2011 Pre-GRAMMY Gala and Salute To Industry Icons Honoring David Geffen at Beverly Hilton on Saturday night (February 12) in Beverly Hills. Not only was her dress selection Ah-maze-ING so was the jewelry she coupled right along with her stunning get up! I must say, when I caught glimpse of these photos I had a true Miley-Spiration moment! It seems to me that Ms. Miley never fails to deck out her wrists with some of the most eye catching and ever so fabulous décor! So today I am paying tribute to her accessories that are So right up my alley! Here’s to Miley-spiration!

Yellow Diamonds In My Ear Call em Lemonheads: Culture(d)

In the beginning was the word. Then came the beat… and it was good. But just listen and trust- Diamonds… and I’m talking about Fancy Colored Diamonds, hit the scene eons before they made any acclaimed rap lyrics or the ear lobes and ring fingers of the upper echelon of our society. To bring a little clarity to the title of today’s post: Harlem raised Grammy nominated rap phenomenon Cam’ron/Killa Cam spills lyrics about these fancy diamonds: “Canary burgundy I call it lemon red Yellow diamonds in my ear Call em lemonheads” Another rap artist, Gucci Mane even has a song titled Lemonade where he references his ice box as “Jewelry box a lemon bin” The best way for me to decipher this eloquent urban poetry is that they are without a  doubt 2 of my most favorite lyrically blinged out lines, but the list of them could go on!

Killa Cam

Dating back to 1949, Carole Channing was among the first to lyrically introduce diamonds to the scene, in the Broadway production, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but it is quite possibly more famously done during the1950’s iconic performance of "Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend" by Marilyn Monroe. Canary, Champagne, Black, Cognac and Chocolate- yes, these are all names for colored diamonds, but colors actually range in more shades than you could think of, including color combinations--like brownish pink, or orangey pink really these gems exist in a rainbow of yellows, reds, pinks, blues, greens, purples and all shades in-between. Fancy colored diamonds can be seen more and more taking the place of the traditional colorless diamond as they have become increasingly popular amidst the celebrity scene! How could we forget J-Lo’s 6 carat pink diamond engagement ring, given to her by Ben Affleck.

But with that said lets get down to a bit of history…
While the name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek "proper", "unalterable", "unbreakable, untamed", diamonds are thought to have been first recognized and mined in India and have been known in India for at least 3,000 years but most likely 6,000 years.
"The earliest diamond color grading system was based on India's ancient class structure. Each class was limited to owning a particular diamond color."

Priests and rulers........................white diamonds

Landowners and warriors...........brown diamonds

Merchants..................................yellow diamonds

Lower class.................................black diamonds

So what is a fancy colored diamond really...?? They are simply just very rare diamonds that are valued based on the intensity of its color... thats all...
